That’s the educational philosophy behind this English teacher’s blog. Focusing on the many challenges facing English language learners in developing fluency, Compelling Conversations shares teaching tips on teaching conversation classes, giving oral presentations, book reviews, conversation starters, language politics, and news of interest to ESL/EFL teachers, tutors, and administrators.
Eric Roth, a longtime English teacher, university lecturer, and co-author of Compelling Conversations: Questions and Quotations on Timeless Topics writes the irregular blog.
“Education is a kind of continuing dialogue and a dialogue assumes different points of view.”
Robert Hutchins (1899-1977), American educator

Thank you for your kind words and savvy suggestion. Unfortunately, I had some negative experiences with more spammers than English teachers or English language learners leaving “off topic” comments that distorted the goal. Besides, the blog remains an informative, educational hobby more and I don’t have the time, patience, or ambition to follow that suggestion. Sometimes we have to recognize our limits, do what we can with available resources (time, energy), and be grateful for our many blessings.
